New Ride for Lee Pearson is a Knabstrupper Stallion!

The Lady Joseph Trust has bought another horse for Lee Pearson. The 10 year old Knabstrupper stallion Lucas Nørmark was sourced by Metter Assouline in Denmark. A delighted Lee said:

"My reaction when told about Lucas was yes yes yes, or at least lets try! Just at the same time I had my accident and broke my back, so its been a very long wait to try him and bring him to my stables.

He has the best of temperaments so far, in-fact I have geldings that act up more! The walk is very good, correct with a great over track, the trot is good and a pace I can hopefully easily improve over the next year, the canter is a little weak but this is not a pace I need for Paralympic tests. The aim will be to get him a little more responsive of my light limited legs aids, accept the contact correctly and behave in all environments!

I really didn’t want a stallion, but to follow in Blue Circle Boy and Gentleman’s shoes I think I need to be riding something both correct and flashy, he certainly fills those shoes!!"

Lucas Nørmark KNN 154, foaled 28 June 2001
Fully graded sports type Knabstrupper stallion.

Height 162 cm. Knab. : 4/8

F: Ravaldi KNN 142 DK
M: Stella Nørmark OLH 03006 DK Oldb.
MF: Pallex af Ulstrup OLH 707 DK Oldb.

We at the Knabstrupper Society GB wish Lee all the best with Lucas and look forward to seeing them compete in their first International classes in the Netherlands in October.  In the mean time, Lee has been filming a new BT advert, which is in a blacked out arena using smoke effects and 5 spotlights - another example of the superb Knabstrupper temperament!!!

Keep up to date with Lee's progress on his Facebook Page

Knabstrupper stallions have an excellent track record in International Para Dressage, with the legendary Zanko (now sadly deceased) being a multi-Gold medal winner for his rider, Ann Cathrin Lubbe, from Norway:

Zanko Knabstupper stallion winning gold at the 2004 Paralympics

Zanko won two gold medals  at the 2004 Athens Paralympics.

Zanko was by Xanthos (KNN 112), the Danish Knabstrupper stallion who was himself successfully competed in dressage in Denmark.

The following comment appeared in the Horse and Hound report of the Athens Olympics:

"This strikingly marked ten year old was the only one to break the 70% barrier with some fabulous half-passes and extended work"

Over here in the UK, Lesley Knowles has also loaned her stallion Stavsdals Jackpot for use by overseas para riders in international championships on numerous occasions.  Their other stallion, Rughavens Jackpot, has been out competing with Rachel Maddocks in Para Dressage classes with great success, having 4 wins in a row and qualifying for the Para National Championships, at which they came 3rd in their class at Hickstead in June 2010.

2011 UK Knabstrupper Grading

The  2011 KNN KSGB Grading held at Usk College was a resounding success.  Despite being a long day, the day was well supported by spectators and all horses presented graded well.  Best in Show went to the lovely mare Blacklaw Vice Versa, who not only premium graded as a mare, but also passed her performance test with flying colours.  Full results will be online soon.

We have already started looking at venues for 2012.  Please contact us with details of your horse and location, if you would like to grade a Knabstrupper in 2012.  We will endeavour to hold the grading(s) in as central a location as possible, according to demand.

Knabstrupper Society GB recognised by the KNN as the Official Daughter Organisation of the KNN in the UK

We are delighted to announce that the KNN, the EU recognised Mother Studbook of the Knabstrupper, has recognised the Knabstrupper Society GB (KSGB) as their daughter organisation, representing the breed here in the UK. KSGB are the first and only UK society recognised by the KNN.

The KSGB was born out of the KNN request that UK breeders and owners should get together and form a democratic association, adhering to the rules and principles on which the KNN is itself based.

Recognition by the KNN as the daughter organisation for the UK confers a number of benefits on our members including:
• Gradings and youngstock assessments organised under the auspices of the KNN.
• Regular news updates about the Knabstrupper and KNN activities in the UK and around the world.
• Usage of the KNN logo by the association and its members, within the rules set down by the KNN and its recognised daughter organisation.

Gradings for Knabstrupper horses and ponies are to be held this autumn under KNN auspices in both the North and South of England, dates and venues will be announced shortly. Owners presenting horses for grading must be full members of either the KNN or the KSGB.

Duncan Gamble.
Chairman.
